What we are advancing towards? A more equitably educated people. Opportunities to more purposefully contribute to society. Novel ways of engaging with and collaborating with others. New fields, new problems to solve, new opportunities we have yet to imagine. There is no singular end goal but rather a host of potential ways to improve.

Caveat: I’m definitely a long term idealist.
